Treasurer’s Report
Chuck Reynolds reported the
June 23 financial statement: Checking
$4,155.90. Savings $4,756.66, Petty Cash $50. Total $8,962.56.
Chuck reported the Friends had received a check from Nuzum grant
for $979
for the publishing costs of thr "Gem" book.
Old Business
Brad reported that he, Carolyn, Chuck and Gwen Hatfield, had
presentations
planned for the "Gem of Wisconsin" at Gays Mills, Viola,
Ontario and Westby.
Brad contacted Angie Sitler, the Nuzum grant contact, requesting a
one-year
extension on the grant. It meets the requirement set up in the
grant and we
are awaiting a decision.
Publishing project: Chuck Hatfield had concerns about the
requirements
attached to the Nuzum grant. We don’t have an interpretation of
the new
requirement – Use of
university resources and university requirements.
He also offered them a copy of the books we have published, but
they weren’t
Interested.
Marcy West suggested we ask the question of where these rules are
coming
from.
Nuzum Book:
Chuck H. reported he has sent all proofs for the Nuzum
"Little Books" to the
printer.
The final title is "Here on the Kickapoo and other Stories
about the Unique
Relationship with the Kickapoo
Valley" by Ralph Nuzum. It is 220 pages and
the cost is $1,414. Was sent to the printers on June 20; with
order for 300 copies.
"Kickapoo Pearls": Discussion about the size, font size
and copying the
pictures because the publication was so unique. Talked about
retyping it but
decided it would lose its charm. The consensus was to go with the
oversize
it is, put it on good paper and use a good binding. Chuck said the
original
was published by a co-op of the Vernon County Historical Society,
Monroe
County Historical Society, Crawford County Historical Society and
Kickapoo
Valley Association with a grant from CEDA. He suggested we get the
cooperation of these different groups as partners to reproduce
this
publication.
Archival Plans
The Wisconsin State Historical Society will be glad to do the
archiving as
long as we give them the money to do it. It was decided to look at
writing a
grant for archiving materials.
Rendezvous
We donated $350 to the rendezvous held in May. Brad felt they did
a good job
although they were unorganized and somewhat difficult to work
with.
Education and Tourism committee expressed some reservation about
the
handling of the rendezvous. There needs to be controls on the
group. Marcy
suggested the Education and Tourism committee be ready to propose
a
compromise to the group.
Friend’s Garden
Needs weeding and will get a load of mulch this Wednesday. Will
plan a
weeding party for Wednesday.
